The Philomath High School’s boys and girls tennis teams both won matchups over Molalla Tuesday.

Playing on the home courts, the boys won a league match for the first time this season with a 2-1 victory. The visitors had only three players on the roster to limit the competition to three singles matches.

At No. 1 singles, PHS junior Lane Schell defeated junior Drew Clonkey, 6-2, 6-4. Warriors freshman Laurence Mielke was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over freshman Logan Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-1.

The girls, playing on the road, won six of their seven matches in straight sets. Singles winners included senior Adele Beckstead (6-0, 6-3) and freshman Ella Hammonds (6-3, 6-4).

Doubles winners were juniors Lucie Oster and Maggie King (6-3, 6-3), sophomores Clara Neville and Lizzie Workman (6-2, 6-3), juniors Logan Cook and Lacey Bacho (6-4, 6-1) and freshmen Bethany Cannon and Bella Nuñez (6-4, 7-6).

Sophomore Lucy Thomas was pushed to three sets at No. 2 singles but she pulled out a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 win. Sophomore Maggie Real had a tough three-set loss at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 3-6, 7-6.

The tennis teams are scheduled to play Thursday against North Marion — the boys on the road and the girls at home.
