The Philomath High School boys wrestling team won 15 of 16 matches and the girls swept three opponents in a double-dual appearance at Willamette High School Thursday in Eugene.

The boys defeated Churchill, 48-16, and Willamette, 60-12, while the girls took down Willamette, 18-12.

Against Churchill, the Warriors won five matches on pins with victories by sophomore Brayden Williams (126 pounds), sophomore Porter Compton (138), junior Ari Hammond (144), sophomore Riley Barrett (157) and junior Ryder Zitlau (157).

Junior JJ Lewis and sophomore Lake Mulberry both won close ones. Lewis defeated his opponent at 175 on an 11-10 decision and Mulberry won 4-2 in a match at 215 that went to a tiebreaker.

Forfeit points were awarded at four weights — each school winning two — and there were double forfeits at two weights.

In the win over the host school, Philomath swept all eight matches that took place on the mat with pins. Winners were Williams (126), sophomore Lukas Hernandez (132), Compton (138), Hammond (144), Barrett (150), Doig (165), Lewis (175) and sophomore Ben McGovern (190).

Hernandez, Barrett and Lewis all pinned their opponents in less than a minute.

Willamette’s points came on forfeits. Philomath had two forfeit wins and there were two double forfeits.

For the girls, senior Ellie Morton (110), senior Acacia Gonzalez-Bush (130) and sophomore Autumn Cluster (155) all won their matches against Willamette on pins. Cluster had a first-period pin in her match.

The opponent’s points came on forfeits. There were double forfeits in nine weight divisions.

Philomath’s wrestling squads are scheduled to compete on Saturday — the boys at a duals meet at Sweet Home and the girls at the Dayton Invitational.
