The Philomath High volleyball team defeated Sweet Home for the second time this season with Thursday night’s dominating 25-12, 25-18, 25-14 victory.
The Warriors remain unbeaten in the Oregon West Conference with a 6-0 record and improve overall to 7-10. Sweet Home dropped to 3-12 overall and 2-4 in the league.
“The team did a great job of staying focused and working on spreading our offense,” PHS coach Whitney Rasmussen said. “It was a great night for consistent volleyball all around.”
PHS junior Taylor Hudson had a career night at the net with nine kills and three blocks in the victory.
“Taylor played an amazing game — the best I’ve seen her play in her high school career,” Rasmussen said. “She was focused, read their offense well at the net and executed on her hits every time. She had worked hard in practice to grow and learn and it paid off for her tonight. I’m so proud of her perseverance.”
Ashleigh Brown, the team’s senior setter, also stood out — especially on the offense, according to the coach.
“She has been working hard in practice to find her rhythm setting and putting together an offensive presence at the net,” Rasmussen said about Brown, who had 15 assists and four kills. “Tonight proved that her hard work is paying off.”
In the first set, junior Isabelle Muir served 17 straight, a stretch that included three aces.
The Warriors will be on the road twice next week with a Tuesday trip to Stayton and a Thursday jaunt over to Cascade.
