Philomath High freshman Kya Bolton scored two goals and had two assists to help the girls soccer team to its first victory of the season, 4-0, on the road over Junction City.

The Warriors (1-2-1) established a one-goal lead in the 10th minute when senior Sophia Bauer found the net with an assist by Bolton. PHS maintained the one-goal advantage for most of the first half but scored late on a Bolton shot into the net, the assist credited to sophomore Annaleise Brown.

“We controlled throughout but were a little sloppy,” PHS coach Mat Phelps said. “We started to connect a lot better in the second half and had a lot of good opportunities.”

After halftime, Philomath extended the lead over Junction City (1-5) to 3-0 in the 57th minute with sophomore Jordyn Hood scoring with an assist by Bolton. Just three minutes later, Bolton scored her second goal with an assist by Bauer.

“Melea (Lattin) played great in the back,” Phelps said. “Kya was dangerous all game.”

The Warriors will now get into Oregon West Conference play with a trip to Sweet Home at 6 p.m. Sept. 26. The Huskies will enter the contest with an 0-4 record.
