The Philomath Scout Lodge will open its doors Saturday, Aug. 9, for its Nonprofit Rummage Sale, an event that provides area organizations with a free venue to raise funds for their causes.
The event, running from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 660 Clemens Mill Road, will feature eight participating nonprofits selling various items with no admission fee for shoppers.
“It’s free for the nonprofits … it’s just a place for them to sell their wares,” said Carol Stueve, a Scout Lodge board member. “They get to keep their profits.”
The participating organizations include Maxtivity Arts and Crafts Creative Space, Lifewize, Quilts for Caring Hands, Corvallis Evening Garden Club, Philomath High School’s Club of Culture, Mid-Valley Productions and Northwest Spay and Neuter, along with the Scout Lodge itself.
The event to boost revenue for nonprofits was rebranded this year from garage sale to rummage sale and moved from June to August. The event will be in its second year at the Scout Lodge — prior to 2024, garage sales were staged at a local church.
“The local nonprofits were happy with the outcome of everything and made money for their cause so that’s why we wanted to do it again,” said Chloe Mayer, Scout Lodge board member. “It just seemed to help a lot of people.”
Stueve said revenue that the Scout Lodge brings in will help support building maintenance for the facility.
“We’ve been there for 25 years now and you know what happens after about 20 years — the plumbing goes and things start rotting,” Stueve said.
