The Philomath School Board plans to meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the school district office to discuss options related to moving forward with the development of a strategic plan and to possibly take a vote on an agreement with the city of Philomath on the 16th Street extension project.
The meeting had originally been scheduled for Jan. 17 but was postponed in the aftermath of an ice storm.
A strategic plan is a common tool utilized by governmental entities to define their vision for the future while identifying goals and objectives. Superintendent of Schools Susan Halliday approached the board at the board’s Dec. 13 meeting on the possibility of hiring an outside organization, Studer Education, to assist with the strategic planning process.
Board members had several questions and Halliday was tasked with researching options, including experiences of Studer clients and communication with the Oregon School Boards Association.
The board will also discuss a proposal by the city on a road project that will extend South 16th behind Philomath Elementary and curve to the east to connect with Cedar Street.
Other items on the agenda include approvals of a proposed 2024-25 budget calendar, Integrated Guidance Grant, Early Literacy Grant, 2022-23 audit and a budgetary appropriations transfer.
The School Board plans to begin the evening with an executive session at 6 p.m. to discuss topics allowed by state statute. Executive sessions are closed to the public.
The Philomath School District office is located at 1620 Applegate St., with access to the meeting through a door at the back of the building. Meetings are also streamed on the school district’s YouTube channel.
