The Philomath Public Works Committee plans to meet Friday to consider the possibility of adding an Oregon LED Conversion Project to the city’s 2026-27 Capital Improvement Plan.
The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. April 10 at Philomath City Hall. The city plans to stream it live on the city’s YouTube channel.
According to supplemental materials in the agenda packet, the project would replace 207 existing high-pressure sodium and mercury vapor streetlights throughout Philomath with energy-efficient LED fixtures at a total estimated cost of $42,082.
The conversion would replace aging fixtures ranging from 70 to 400 watts with LED units drawing significantly less power — in most cases reducing wattage by 68% to 89%. The project was analyzed in partnership with PacifiCorp, which owns and maintains the city’s streetlights.
Financial projections show the city could save an estimated $7,021 annually on its street lighting bill after the conversion with monthly costs dropping from approximately $2,112 to $1,527. The project also could qualify for an estimated $20,790 incentive through Energy Trust of Oregon, which would bring the net cost to just over $21,000.
Committee members include Mayor Christopher McMorran and councilors Brent Kaseman and Rich Saalsaa.
