Editor’s note: This report is based on information submitted by the Philomath Police Department. All calls for service may not be included. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate and may not be included if it could identify victims of certain crimes of a sensitive nature (sexual abuse, stalking, etc.). Individuals are identified in the log only if arrested on felony charges. Calls that involve the Department of Human Services and minor children are not included. Juveniles are not identified. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.
FRIDAY, NOV. 14
• 8:58 a.m. — Police issued a citation to a 31-year-old Philomath man in the 1100 block of Main Street on a warrant out of Philomath Municipal Court during a response related to an open line 911 call of a man and woman arguing. No crime related to the argument was reported.
• 11:51 a.m. — Police responded to a report of second-degree theft at a business on North 14th Street involving a large floor mat. According to police, a male suspect was captured on video taking the mat and in the process, left behind orange OSU shorts on the ground near the front door. The incident occurred at around 9 p.m. on Nov. 13.
Other calls: Police responses included an extra patrol at 8:49 a.m. (South 17th Street), suspicious person at 12:11 p.m. (Cedar Street and South 17th Street), suspicious behavior at 3:29 p.m. (Main Street), welfare check on man walking with no shoes or shirt at 3:55 p.m. (Main Street), 911 hang-up call at 5:55 p.m. (South 19th Street), non-911 issue at 6:26 p.m. (South 14th Street), dogs barking at 7:07 p.m. (Applegate Street), and a noncriminal issue at 8:36 p.m. (Philomath Elementary School). PPD reported one traffic stop.
SATURDAY, NOV. 15
• 6:08 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash with a deer on Highway 20 near Garrett Lane in the Wren vicinity. The vehicle had front-end damage and was towed from the scene. Another motorist stopped to move the deer off the roadway.
• 9:51 p.m. — Police arrested a 49-year-old Philomath woman on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol .15 through .19) during a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Applegate Street.
• 10:35 p.m. — Police responded to a report of someone banging on a resident’s door in the 1200 block of North 19th Street. The individual ended up being the caller’s husband.
Other calls: Police responses included a report of suspicious activity at 1:27 a.m. (McCall Way), animal complaint at 1:41 p.m. (South Seventh Street), motorist assistance at 2 p.m. (Main Street) and a dog at large returned to owners at 5:18 p.m. (South 30th Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 12:40 p.m. (Fern Road and Grange Hall Road). PPD reported two traffic stops.
SUNDAY, NOV. 16
• 12:22 a.m. — Police arrested a 26-year-old Philomath man on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, carrying a concealed weapon and eluding police. The man was transported to Benton County Jail where he was cited in lieu of custody.
• 6:33 p.m. — Police arrested a 63-year-old Philomath man on a felony charge of fourth-degree assault (later filed by the court as a misdemeanor) following a domestic disturbance call at a Pioneer Street residence.
Other calls: PPD reported 12 traffic stops.
MONDAY, NOV. 17
• 1:57 p.m. — Police responded to Philomath City Park to a report from the city’s public works department that someone had completely filled two Republic Services containers with household trash, which is considered first-degree theft of services.
Other calls: Police responses included citizen assistance at 12:21 p.m. (Applegate Street), citizen assistance at 3:14 p.m. (police station lobby) and a juvenile complaint at 4:50 p.m. (address withheld). PPD reported two traffic stops.
TUESDAY, NOV. 18
• 2:51 p.m. — Police arrested a 41-year-old Siletz man in the 600 block of Main Street on a misdemeanor charge of third-degree theft (shoplifting). The man was cited in lieu of custody.
Other calls: Police responses included a report of a backpack with pills inside that was found at 5:40 p.m. (Philomath City Park. In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 5:24 a.m. (Highway 34). PPD reported no traffic stops.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 19
• 5:27 p.m. — Police responded to a report of shoplifting at Philomath Market involving an unknown man that stole a 12-pack of craft cider valued at $26.20. Police later arrested a 43-year-old Philomath man on a misdemeanor charge of third-degree theft (shoplifting).
Other calls: Police responses included event detail at 1:42 p.m. (South 16th Street) and an unspecified noncriminal issue at 6:20 p.m. (North 19th Street). PPD reported no traffic stops.
THURSDAY, NOV. 20
• 7:53 a.m. — Police responded to the 100 block of North 15th Street for a report of stolen medication that had gone missing the previous day.
• 12:50 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run in the 2400 block of Newton Street involving minor damage to a Ford F-150.
• 5:45 p.m. — Police responded to a single-vehicle crash at Main Street and South 24th Street involving a motorist who missed a parking lot and drove into a steep ditch. The vehicle’s driver contacted a tow company to pull it out.
Other calls: Police responses included a welfare check at 9:58 a.m. (address not given), welfare check at 6:22 p.m. (Marlon Street) and a suspicious vehicle at 9:20 p.m. (North 12th Street). PPD reported four traffic stops.
