Editor’s note: This report is based on information submitted by the Philomath Police Department. All calls for service may not be included. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate and may not be included if it could identify victims of certain crimes of a sensitive nature (sexual abuse, stalking, etc.). Individuals are identified in the log only if arrested on felony charges. Calls that involve the Department of Human Services and minor children are not included. Juveniles are not identified. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

FRIDAY, FEB. 28

• 2:30 a.m. — Police responded to the area of The Boulevard Apartments on the eastern edge of town to look for the source of a sound that was described as a “wounded animal screeching.” Upon investigation, police determined the sound to be an owl flying around “doing owl things.” 

• 6:56 p.m. — Police arrested a 77-year-old Waldport woman on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol under .08) during a traffic stop at Main Street and South 20th Street. The woman was cited in lieu of custody and transported to her residence in Waldport.

Other calls: Police responses included a welfare check at 8:38 a.m. (College Street), found property at 12:58 p.m. (Applegate Street) and a dog at large at 1:21 p.m. (South 30th Street). PPD reported seven traffic stops.

SATURDAY, MARCH 1

• 9:43 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a 3-year-old girl that had been missing for 15 minutes. The child was found behind a neighbor’s house.

• 11:39 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the west-central section of town. Police discovered two juveniles yelling at each other over helping their mother in the garden.  

Other calls: Police assisted another agency on a call at 8:01 p.m. (Evergreen Road). PPD reported 14 traffic stops.

SUNDAY, MARCH 2

• 10:33 a.m. — Police conducted a death investigation in the 700 block of McCall Way. An adult male was declared deceased after falling in his home.

• 3:28 p.m. — Police responded to a report of two men arguing about riding pocket bikes in the street in the 300 block of North 11th Street. One of the two involved in the altercation was determined to have violated his probation by consuming alcohol and was advised to contact his probation officer.

Other calls: Police responses included a non-911 issue at 5:36 p.m. (North Eighth Street). In addition, police assisted other agencies on calls at 7:31 p.m. (Southwest Philomath Boulevard and Southwest 66th Street, Corvallis) and 8:50 p.m. (North 18th Street). PPD reported two traffic stops.

MONDAY, MARCH 3

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included citizen contact at 8:22 a.m. (Inspiration Way), citizen assistance at 10:52 a.m. (North 11th Street), dog complaint at 4:34 p.m. (South 19th Street) and a report of identity theft at 5:02 p.m. (address not reported). PPD reported four traffic stops.

TUESDAY, MARCH 4

• 10:34 p.m. — Police arrested a 35-year-old Keizer man on a misdemeanor charge of driving while suspended during a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Main Street. He was also arrested on a warrant out of Lincoln County for failure to appear.

Other calls: Police responses included an abandoned vehicle at 1:46 p.m. (North 14th Street). PPD reported two traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5

• 12:29 a.m. — Police responded to a first-degree criminal mischief incident with criminal damage in the 500 block of North Eighth Street involving a vehicle that was keyed and a phone that was broken. Police said the victim did not want to pursue charges.

• 11:39 a.m. — Police responded to a residence for a report of assault and arrested Johnathan Miki Montiel, 20, of Philomath, on a felony strangulation charge.

• 2:58 p.m. — Police responded to a littering violation at Applegate Street and South Ninth Street involving an individual who dumped a mattress and box spring.

• 7:52 p.m. — Police responded to a report of disorderly conduct in the 1300 block of Applegate Street involving a man who was leaving an apartment complex and broke a balcony railing (possibly unintentionally) and got into an argument with a passerby. The man was not located.

• 9:34 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a burglary in the 100 block of North Eighth Street involving an unknown suspect who broke into a victim’s room and stole shoes, sports cards, money and medication with an approximate value of $8,000.

Other calls: Police responses included a suspicious circumstance at 7:43 a.m. (North Eighth Street), domestic disturbance at 8:25 a.m. (Applegate Street), citizen contact at 1:58 p.m. (Applegate Street) and a report of a vicious dog at 4:22 p.m. (North 11th Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on calls at 1:40 a.m. (Bailey Street) and 5:22 p.m. (Highway 20/34). PPD reported one traffic stop.

THURSDAY, MARCH 6

• 11:20 a.m. — Police responded to an incident involving several boys who reportedly followed a middle school student and allegedly shot at the individual with a BB gun and then attempted to kick in the front door of the victim’s home.

Other calls: Police responses included citizen contact at 10:03 a.m. (Highway 20/34) and a civil dispute at 2:44 p.m. (North 19th Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 4:07 p.m. (Highway 20). PPD reported five traffic stops.
