The Philomath Lions Club will hold its 20th annual book sale Thursday through Saturday at the rodeo grounds in Skirvin Park with more than 18,000 books and roughly 500 CDs and DVDs available for purchase.
The sale runs noon to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Organizers said only books in good to like-new condition make it into the sale with no former library books included. Shoppers can expect a wide selection of mystery, suspense, general and Christian fiction, sci-fi, horror, fantasy and western titles in both hardcover and paperback, along with large selections of cooking, craft and hobby, sports and outdoor, gardening, current events, religion and history books.
The sale also includes a wide range of children’s picture and chapter books, plus poetry, music, art, humor, travel, classic literature, science and technology, pets and horses, biography, and audio and large-print titles. A special section will feature individually priced unique new and like-new books.
Prices remain affordable throughout the sale with prices ranging from 75 cents to $2. Special and gift-quality books are priced individually.
On Saturday, most books and recordings will be available for $5 a bag with special books offered at half price. Paper grocery bags will be provided.
Organizers note that the books have not been picked over or listed for internet sales.
The book sale has traditionally served as the Lions Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year and represents one of the larger sales in the region. Proceeds support the organization’s various local causes, including college textbook scholarships awarded to Philomath High School students each spring.
