The Philomath High School girls basketball team bounced back from Friday’s tournament-opening loss in Huntington Beach, California, with a 60-48 victory over Bishop Alemany, a school out of Mission Hills.
Junior Reagan Heiken had a big game with 24 points on 10 field goals and a 4-for-7 performance at the free-throw line. Heiken scored nine points in the first quarter to help the Warriors build a 20-7 lead.
Senior Isabelle Muir came off the bench to score nine points, most of those in the second half with senior Shaylee May on the bench after twisting an ankle in the second quarter. May is expected to be back on the floor on Monday. Junior Jordyn Hood added eight points.
The Warriors (6-3) led by 17 at halftime and by the end of the game, Bishop Alemany had cut its deficit to 12.
The Surf City Holiday Classic pool play game was played at Ocean View High School.
Freshman guard Kyla Lea scored 27 points to lead Bishop Alemany (8-7), a school that also used the Warriors for its nickname. Lea finished with six field goals, two of those 3-pointers, and sank 13 of 14 free throws.
Philomath will get a break from the action Sunday and then complete pool play on Monday with a 6 p.m. contest against Torrance North. Trophy-round games are scheduled for Tuesday.
