Senior Kateri Pindell, sophomore Wyatt Coen and the girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay all turned in winning performances for Philomath High School Friday in a five-school meet at Sweet Home Community Pool.

Pindell won the 100-yard breaststroke by nearly 6 seconds over the runner-up with a time of 1:25.55. She also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay, which also included junior Kathleen Donovan, sophomore Kate Burriel and sophomore Emma Mecham. The foursome swam the distance in 2:03.65, winning by 1.33 seconds over the runner-up.

Coen outlasted a Hidden Valley swimmer for first place in the 500 freestyle. He touched the wall 4.70 seconds ahead of the runner-up with a time of 6:45.03.

Donovan had a second-place performance in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:16.89 and also placed third in the 100 freestyle in 1:07.95.

Other top-three individuals included junior Cameron McLennan in the 100 butterfly (1:01.47), junior Evan Hernandez in the 100 backstroke (1:16.94) and junior Ike Avery in the 200 individual medley (2:49.39) for the boys and Mecham in the 50 freestyle (30.63) and Burriel in the 500 freestyle (6:52.70).

Among the relays, in addition to the 200 freestyle relay, the girls also placed second in the 200 medley with Donovan, Pindell, senior Brooke McDaniel and Burriel finishing in 2:21.32. The boys had a runner-up showing in the 200 medley relay with junior Mason Stevens, senior Alex Dye, McLennan and junior Blake Hauck with a time of 1:59.74. The 200 freestyle relay was third in 1:50.70 with Avery, Dye, McLennan and Stevens.

Philomath’s girls were second and the boys third in the team standings. Sweet Home took first for the girls and Hidden Valley won the boys’ competition.

Philomath’s next meet is scheduled for the home pool at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday with Blanchet Catholic, Kennedy and Sisters.
