The Philomath City Council will tackle several items during a meeting scheduled for Monday evening, including responding to a Planning Commission vacancy and selecting a grand marshal for the annual Parade of Lights.

The council meets at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at Philomath City Hall. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.

The meeting begins with presentations, including recognition of 12 Citizens’ Academy participants who will receive certificates of completion. Sarah Lench, director of Maxtivity Arts and Crafts Creative Space, will also address the council.

Among the new business items, council members will discuss advertising a vacancy on the Planning Commission following the resignation of John Barlow. Barlow had been appointed to the commission in January 2023 and the term expires at the end of next year.

The council will also discuss the “If I Were Mayor” contest and select a grand marshal for the Philomath Light Parade, which is scheduled for Dec. 20.

City staff will present a first-quarter report on the city’s Strategic Plan and will also consider approving a contract agreement with BB&A Environmental for the removal of an underground storage tank on city property at the corner of Main and 14th.

Two proclamations are on the agenda — one recognizing Veterans Day on Nov. 11, and another denouncing violence in the community.

Following the regular meeting, the council will convene in executive session to discuss performance evaluations of public officers and employees, a matter allowed under Oregon public meetings law.

Prior to the regular meeting, councilors will gather for a work session to continue discussions on proposed utility rate adjustments.
