The Philomath High School baseball team completed a sweep over Sweet Home Thursday with a 12-1 win on the road.

The Warriors are off to a 3-0 start in Oregon West Conference play and take a 9-2-1 record into a nonleague game Saturday at Junction City.

Philomath pounded out 15 hits in the victory with all but one starter getting at least one hit. Junior Rocco De La Rosa went 3 for 3 and both sophomore Jacob Hernandez and senior Kayson Olsen went 3 for 4. Hernandez had a double and drove in four runs. Olsen’s three hits were all doubles. Junior Caleb Babcock finished 2 for 4 with a double and had four RBIs. Senior Joe Barnes also had a double.

Junior Wylie Griffith threw a five-inning complete game and allowed five hits, one run and no walks with four strikeouts.

Philomath outscored Sweet Home, 56-6, in the three-game series.

Saturday’s game at Junction City was rescheduled from a March 21 rainout. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The Tigers come into the game with a 9-2 record and No. 2 OSAA ranking. Philomath is ranked No. 7.

Next week, the Warriors will face Stayton in a three-game series — the Monday and Thursday games will be played at PHS.
