A tour of the historic Philomath College building, which houses the Benton County Historical Society’s Philomath Museum, will be available Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, organizers announced.
The tour, led by a trained BCHS docent, highlights the stories of students and teachers who lived and worked at the college and helped shape the Philomath community. Each tour begins at 2 p.m.
The building, constructed in 1867, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The tour includes details about the campus—at one point home to a gymnasium and tennis court—and its history with the Church of the United Brethren in Christ.
The museum’s program aligns with National Historic Preservation Month, recognized each May. The annual observance celebrates the nation’s heritage through historic places and promotes awareness of the importance of preservation. The Philomath College tour costs $10 per person, and registration is required.
