Philomath High School’s boys swim team placed second at Saturday’s meet at Stayton Family Memorial Pool.
Junior Lucas Brandt and senior Cameron McLennan paced the Philomath boys with each collecting a pair of individual victories. Brandt touched first in the 50-meter freestyle (26.09 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (57.64). McLennan took first in both the 100 butterfly (1:10.79) and 100 breaststroke (1:23.40).
The Philomath boys added a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay with the team of senior Mason Stevens, Brandt, McLennan and senior Blake Hauck clocking 2:11.96. The 200 freestyle relay was second with junior Wyatt Coen, Hauck, McLennan and Brandt turning in a time of 1:57.93. Coen placed second in the 400 freestyle (5:44.27).
The Philomath boys scored 108 points, trailing only host Stayton’s 124.5.
On the girls’ side, freshman Adelina Kowalewski won the 50 freestyle in 32.54 seconds to lead the Warriors. Junior Kate Burriel added a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:33.95), while sophomore Emmylou Cook took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:44.65).
Cascade won the girls’ meet. Molalla edged Philomath by two points for fourth place.
A note on the times — events at the Stayton pool were in meters, not yards as seen at most meets and the marathon swim was 400 meters instead of 500.
Philomath’s next meet is scheduled for Jan. 9 at Newport.
