The Philomath High School boys tennis team defeated its second straight Class 5A opponent with a 5-3 victory on Friday afternoon at Silverton.
The Warriors swept the four singles matches and added a victory at No. 3 doubles to go to 2-0 on the season.
Senior Dawson Beckstead dominated his opponent in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Beckstead has not given up a game yet this season with that same result two days earlier against Lebanon.
Junior Andrew Leonard, sophomore Jackson Rice and junior Owen Thomas all ran their records to 2-0 with victories at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Leonard won by a 6-3, 6-3 margin, Rice fought for a 7-5, 6-4 victory and Thomas rolled in a 6-2, 6-0 win.
In doubles, Philomath’s lone win came at No. 3 with freshman Jackson Holroyd and junior Osvaldo Garcia-Bazan pulling out a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
The Warriors’ No. 1 doubles team of senior Teddy Benbow and junior Sawyer Ainsworth had a very close loss at 6-4, 7-6. The No. 2 doubles team of junior Gradin Fairbanks and freshman Lane Schell fell by a 6-4, 6-2 margin.
There was no match at No. 4 doubles with the Foxes getting the win by forfeit.
Philomath is scheduled to host South Albany on Tuesday.
