The Philomath High School boys tennis team won seven of eight matches to handily defeat North Marion, 7-1, in a district matchup Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Gradin Fairbanks and sophomore Johnny Pickett provided one of the match’s highlights by pulling out a 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 victory in a No. 1 doubles match that took 2-1/2 hours. The Warriors also won at No. 2 with junior Jackson Holroyd and senior Osvaldo Garcia-Bazan (6-0, 6-1) and at No. 3 with junior Ethan Aynes and senior Nicholas Purcell (6-2, 6-1).

Philomath dominated the singles matches with two-set sweeps in each of the four matches while losing only eight games.

At No. 1 singles, senior Andrew Leonard defeated Manuel Camacho, 6-0, 6-2. Senior Sawyer Ainsworth was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Eitan Sheperd at No. 2. Junior Jackson Rice won by a 6-1, 6-0 margin over Ricardo Jimenez at No. 3. And at No. 4, senior Owen Thomas downed Edgar Morales, 6-1, 6-3.

Philomath (8-2 overall, 7-1 league) is scheduled to host Cascade on Thursday.
