The Mario Pastega House, which offers families from out of the area a place to stay while loved ones are receiving specialized medical care at the Samaritan Cancer Center, will commemorate its 20th anniversary with an open house from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The public is invited to tour the facility and see recent updates from a remodeling project in the original wing. The updates closely match the décor of the new Alma Pastega Wing constructed in 2022.
The Mario and Alma Pastega Family Foundation donated $180,000 to the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation for the improvements to the north wing. This gift paid for new flooring, lighting and furnishings of the 12 guest rooms.
“This 20th anniversary is a testament to the enduring impact of the Pastega family’s vision,” Sarha Settle, Pastega House manager, said through a press release. “Every day, we see the difference this house makes in people’s lives.”
Established in 2005, the Mario Pastega House has provided a home away from home for countless families during times of medical crisis. Named after local philanthropist Mario Pastega, the house has become an integral part of the community’s support system.
Ken Pastega, son of the late Mario Pastega, will deliver remarks on the house’s journey and future. Following guided tours, a cake reception will be held.
