WEDNESDAY, NOV. 27
• 5:13 p.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 213 just north of Mulino in Clackamas County that took the life of Delfino Palacios Navarro, 54, of Molalla. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Navarro was headed south on the highway when the Mazda MZ6 he was driving crossed into the northbound travel lanes while attempting to negotiate a curve. The Mazda struck a Ram CS5 driven by a 37-year-old Oregon City man and the impact forced the truck to turn into the southbound lane and crash head-on into a Ford Escape driven by a 60-year-old Mulino woman. OSP reported that the Mazda was believed to be the same vehicle that had been associated with a driver complaint only a few minutes before the crash. Navarro was transported via air ambulance to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Ford’s driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Ram’s driver was not injured.
FRIDAY, NOV. 29
• 6:57 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 213 near Mulino in Clackamas County that took the life of Lyndsey Gail Mohler, 23, of Molalla. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Mohler was driving a Ford Focus south on the highway when she lost control on a curve and entered the northbound lanes where her vehicle collided head-on with a Subaru Crosstrek driven by a 28-year-old Gresham resident. Mohler was declared deceased at the scene. The Subaru’s driver and a passenger were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
SATURDAY, NOV. 30
• 3:46 p.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 101 about 2 miles south of Cannon Beach that took the life of Wesley Dalton Leraas, 30, of Gearhart. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Leraas on a Honda Shadow and a 45-year-old Bay City man on a Yamaha V-Star were headed north on Highway 101 and were attempting to pass a vehicle on a curved area when they encountered a GMC Sierra driven by a 71-year-old Rockaway Beach man coming in the opposite direction. The motorcycles made contact with each other as they attempted to re-enter their lane. However, the Honda lost control and struck the GMC head-on. The Yamaha’s operator temporarily lost control but was able to re-enter the northbound lane to avoid a collision. Leraas was declared deceased at the scene. The Yamaha’s operator was reportedly not injured. The GMC’s driver and passengers were reportedly not injured. The primary cause of the crash under consideration is unsafe passing and speed.
SUNDAY, DEC. 1
• 9:41 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 18 near its intersection with Highway 99 at McDougall Road northeast of Dayton that took the life of Francisco Nava, 45, of Newberg. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Nava, who was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis, turned onto westbound Highway 18 from southbound Highway 99 and lost control after traveling a short distance. The Mercury spun into the eastbound lane of Highway 18 and was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Bounder RV driven by a 45-year-old Browning, Montana, resident. Nava was transported to a hospital for medical treatment and was later declared deceased. The RV’s driver was reportedly not injured. A 5-year-old girl in the RV reportedly suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Two other passengers in the RV, a 15-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, were reportedly uninjured.
MONDAY, DEC. 2
• 11:43 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 about 4 miles south of Comstock in Douglas County that took the life of Sargis Sargsyan, 51, of Glendale, California. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Sargsyan was driving south on I-5 in a commercial semi-truck when for unknown reasons, he struck the rear of a parked commercial semi-truck that was occupied by 29-year-old and 36-year-old individuals from Rockville, Maryland. Sargsyan was declared deceased at the scene. The occupants of the parked semi were reportedly not injured.
TUESDAY, DEC. 3
• 8:06 a.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 26 about 3 miles west of Dayville in Grant County that took the life of Anthony Montague, 62, of John Day. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Montague was driving west on Highway 26 in a Ford Crown Victoria when he lost control while attempting to pass another vehicle, left the roadway, went down an embankment and sheared a power pole at the base with the vehicle rolling onto its top. Montague was declared deceased at the scene.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 4
• 2:02 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 138E near Glide that took the life of Reuben James Wiles, 26, of Idleyld Park. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 75-year-old Glide man was heading east on the highway in a Nissan Versa and turned left into a store’s parking lot into the path of a westbound Honda motorcycle operated by Wiles. The motorcycle hit the passenger side of the Nissan. Wiles was declared deceased at the scene. The Nissan’s driver and a passenger, a 72-year-old Glide woman, were reported uninjured. The primary cause of the crash was considered to be an unsafe turn.
