MONDAY, AUG. 17
• 11:47 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 northbound in Douglas County that took the life of Carl Leslie Earhart, 80, of Independence. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated a Kia Rondo driven by Earhart was traveling northbound on I-5 north of Sutherlin when it left the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a group of trees, rolled over and caught fire. Earhart was pronounced deceased at the scene.
TUESDAY, AUG. 18
• 12:40 p.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 30 about 16 miles east of Astoria that took the life of Benny Roy Parker, 86, of Astoria. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Ford F-350 pickup driven by a 73-year-old Ocean Park, Washington, man was eastbound on Highway 30 when it rear-ended Parker’s Chevrolet Malibu, which was stopped and waiting to turn onto Valley Creek Lane. The Malibu was pushed into the westbound lane, where it was struck by a westbound Honda Accord driven by a 43-year-old Ocean Park, Washington, man. Parker was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. The drivers of the Ford and the Honda sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
