THURSDAY, JULY 23
• 10:37 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 near Sandy that took the life of James Glenn Fisher, 62, of Medford. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Freightliner semitruck and triple trailer driven by a 36-year-old Bend man was traveling westbound near East Terra Fern Drive when it overheated and stopped in the westbound travel lane. A white Volvo semitruck and triple trailer driven by Fisher rear-ended the Freightliner. Fisher was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Freightliner’s driver was not injured.
FRIDAY, JULY 24
• 2:58 p.m. — Troopers responded to a vehicle-bicycle crash on Highway 99E in Woodburn that took the life of Howard Roy Hagen, 79, of Woodburn. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Ford Expedition driven by a 24-year-old Woodburn man was traveling northbound near Cleveland Street in Woodburn when it struck Hagen, who was attempting to cross the highway on a bicycle. Hagen was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Ford’s driver was not injured. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
MONDAY, JULY 27
• 5:24 p.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 58 near Rattlesnake Road west of Dexter that took the life of Leilani Kana’i Barto, 18, of Dallas. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that an eastbound Mazda 3 sedan driven by Barto was attempting to pass eastbound traffic and collided head-on with a westbound Toyota Highlander SUV driven by a 74-year-old Eugene man. The Highlander was then struck by a westbound Kenworth semitruck and trailer driven by a 38-year-old Sutherlin man. Barto was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Toyota’s driver was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The truck’s driver was not injured. Speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash, OSP reported.
