SUNDAY, OCT. 12

• 1:08 a.m. — Troopers responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Highway 42 near Winston that took the life of Dustin Rios, 30, of Canyonville. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Rios was struck by an eastbound vehicle for an unknown reason on Highway 42 near Grant Smith Road close to a Taco Bell restaurant. The vehicle, believed to be a Honda Civic, left the scene and OSP asked for the public’s help to find the driver. Rios was declared deceased at the scene. On Oct. 16, OSP reported the arrest of Brandon James Jensen, 41, of Roseburg, on a felony charge of failure to perform the duties of a driver to injured persons and misdemeanor tampering with physical evidence.

MONDAY, OCT. 13

• 5:11 p.m. — Troopers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Highway 240 west of Newberg that took the life of Larry Joseph Mervin Jacobs, 66, of Newberg. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Toyota Rav4 driven by a 47-year-old Cornelius woman was heading west on Highway 240 and struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway. Jacobs was declared deceased at the scene.
