MONDAY, JUNE 3
• 7:08 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 199 about 4 miles north of Selma that took the life of Brandon Richard Cain, 28, of Grants Pass. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Cain was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 north on Highway 199 when he failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree on the southbound shoulder. Cain was declared deceased at the scene. Speed was considered to be the primary factor in the crash, OSP reported.
THURSDAY, JUNE 6
• 10:03 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 153 in Yamhill County about a half-mile west of its intersection with Highway 221 that took the life of Kevin Gilbert McFadden, 57, of Salem. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Toyota Corolla driven by a 25-year-old Salem man heading west swerved into a ditch to avoid a collision with an eastbound motorcycle, which had entered the westbound lane of travel. The Toyota lost control and swerved back onto the roadway, striking the second motorcycle, a Victory CR8, operated by McFadden. The other motorcycle, which was reportedly in the westbound lane, did not stop. McFadden was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota suffered minor injuries. • 10:21 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Myrtle Creek that took the life of William Nailus Baird, 74, of Myrtle Creek. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Baird was walking on a curve in the northbound fast lane when he was struck by a semitruck driven by a 24-year-old British Columbia man. The semi attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. Baird was declared deceased at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
