Story update (July 15, 2:52 p.m.): Oregon State Police sent out a correction on a fatality that it had reported as occurring on July 6 (entry has been deleted from this roundup). A pedestrian, Logan James Irwin, 24 of Tangent, was not declared deceased after being struck by a vehicle as OSP originally reported and receiving medical care. "OSP has contacted Mr. Irwin's family to express our deep regret for the reporting error and any additional pain it may have caused. We sincerely apologize for this error," OSP wrote.

THURSDAY, JULY 3
• 10:28 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near Boardman that took the life of Timothy W. Nelson, 50, city of residence not reported. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Nelson was driving a Honda Odyssey east on I-84 about 1 mile west of Boardman when the vehicle struck the end of a guardrail. Nelson was declared deceased at the scene.
FRIDAY, JULY 4
• 1:06 p.m. — Troopers responded to a four-vehicle crash on Highway 101 near Lakeside that took the lives of Manual Samuel Starr, 38, of Coos Bay, and Shatara Rosemarie Holmes, 39, of Coos Bay. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Starr was driving a Kia Optima north on Highway 101 when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed the centerline and sideswiped a Toyota Corolla driven by a 61-year-old Florence man before colliding head-on with a Dodge Ram driven by a 55-year-old Coos Bay man. A southbound Subaru Outback, driven by a 61-year-old woman from Lake Stevens, Washington, was unable to avoid the crash and also collided head-on with the Kia. Starr and Holmes, who was a rear passenger in the Kia, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The couple’s daughter, a 7-month-old girl, did not appear to be injured but was transported to a local hospital. The Dodge’s driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The front passenger in the Dodge, a 44-year-old Coos Bay woman, was transported to a hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries. Passengers in the Dodge, a 20-year-old Coos Bay man, a 3-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, reportedly had minor injuries. The Subaru’s driver reportedly had minor injuries. Passengers in the Subaru, a 55-year-old Lake Stevens woman and a 10-year-old child, were reportedly not injured. The Toyota’s driver was reportedly not injured.
TUESDAY, JULY 8
• 12:31 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 20 near Harper that took the life of Alberto Ruiz Gomez, 33, of Hermiston. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Gomez was driving a semi-truck east on Highway 20 when for unknown reasons, he left the roadway and went onto the eastbound shoulder. The driver overcorrected and the semi flipped over. Gomez was declared deceased at the scene.
