SATURDAY, JAN. 24
• 3:59 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Foots Creek in rural Jackson County that took the life of Ana Azuchena Villa-Rodriguez, 31, of Medford. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Villa-Rodriguez was driving a southbound Nissan Altima and attempted to make a U-turn for unknown reasons and was struck by a southbound Dodge Ram 2500 driven by a 50-year-old Grants Pass man. Villa-Rodriguez was declared deceased at the scene.
• 11:32 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 22 near Rickreall that took the life of Eduardo Carrillo Jiminez, 42, of Lebanon. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Jiminez was driving a westbound Chrysler Town and Country van when it left the roadway for unknown reasons between the Highway 223 exit and Highway 22, before rolling and ejecting him. Jiminez was declared deceased at the scene.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 28
• 9:04 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 126 west of Powell Butte in Crook County that took the life of Aspen Cheyenne Hadley, 25, of Bend. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Hadley was driving a westbound Jeep Cherokee when it crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and struck an eastbound Freightliner box truck driven by a 35-year-old Redmond woman head-on. Hadley was declared deceased at the scene. The Freightliner’s driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
THURSDAY, JAN. 29
• 8:18 a.m. — Oregon State Police and local law enforcement agencies responded to multiple 911 calls of a person discharging a firearm from a vehicle on Interstate 5 south of Winchester and north of Roseburg. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Charles Simmons, 53, of Winston, was reportedly discharging a firearm from within his Dodge Ram pickup while traveling northbound on the interstate. Simmons reportedly contacted pedestrians, attempted to stop other motorists and caused a noninjury crash with another vehicle while displaying and at times discharging a firearm. Simmons was located by law enforcement and taken into custody. After identifying the suspect, it was later learned he had contacted the Roseburg OSP office and made concerning comments related to “foreign” persons driving on Interstate 5. OSP is investigating possible bias crimes in relation to this incident and the suspect’s previous statement.
