THURSDAY, MAY 15
• 4:11 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 34 about 3 miles east of Eddyville that took the life of Anthony Joel Estrada, 37, of Toledo. For a full report, see separate story.
• 6:21 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 near Port Orford that took the life of Wylie Joe Summerlin, 62, of Port Orford. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Summerlin was driving north on Highway 101 in a Jeep Patriot when he swerved off the road while avoiding a deer and struck a tree. Summerlin, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was declared deceased after he was transported to a nearby hospital.
SATURDAY, MAY 17
• 2:54 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 140 in Klamath Falls that took the life of a 17-year-old boy. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 40-year-old Klamath Falls man was headed east on Highway 140 in a Dodge Durango when he struck a disabled Honda CRV that was partially blocking the eastbound lane. The teen was in front of the vehicle attempting to diagnose the problem with the vehicle and upon impact, was thrown over a bridge barrier and into the Klamath River. The juvenile was declared deceased after being recovered from the river. An 18-year-old girl who was seated in the Honda was reportedly not injured. The Durango’s driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
• 9:14 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 30 near Scappoose that took the life of Christopher Michael Casillas, 37, of Everett, Washington. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Gary E. Fowler, 70, of Deer Island, was driving a Dodge Nitro west on Highway 30 reportedly at a high rate of speed when he struck the rear of a Lexus R330, driven by a 43-year-old St. Helens woman. The collision forced the Lexus off the road and the car rolled before coming to rest on the adjacent railroad tracks. The driver of the Lexus, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Casillas, a passenger in the Lexus, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected when the vehicle rolled, OSP reported. He was declared deceased at the scene. Fowler suffered minor injuries and after he was cleared from a medical center, troopers arrested him on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, first-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault and reckless endangerment. OSP reported that speed and operator impairment were considered to be the primary causes of the crash
MONDAY, MAY 19
• 7:30 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 58 about 7 miles east of Dexter that took the life of Martin Tammekivi, 37, of Oregon City. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Tammekivi was driving west on Highway 58 in a Toyota Hilux and was approaching slowed traffic when he entered the eastbound lane and was struck on the passenger side door by an eastbound Dodge 2500 driven by a 28-year-old Eugene man. Tammekivi was declared deceased at the scene. The Dodge’s driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
• 10:48 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 199 at the intersection with Waldamar Road north of Cave Junction that took the life of Hunter Lee Bryant, 24, of Cave Junction. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Bryant was driving east on Waldamar Road in a Toyota Corolla when he failed to stop at a stop sign and entered Highway 199. A southbound GMC Yukon, driven by a 59-year-old Selma man, struck the driver side door of the Toyota. Bryant was declared deceased at the scene. The GMC’s driver suffered minor injuries.
TUESDAY, MAY 20
• 3:45 a.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near Heppner Junction that took the life of Adam Hassan Ahmed Haroun, 47, of Twin Falls, Idaho. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Haroun was driving a semi-truck west on I-84 when he left the roadway and struck a bridge pillar before catching fire. Haroun was declared deceased at the scene.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 21
• 10:32 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 47 south of Forest Grove that took the life of Francisco Javier Romero, 27, of McMinnville. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Martin Santizo Santizo, 22, of Gervais, was driving north on Highway 47 in a Ford Econoline van when he crossed the centerline and sideswiped a Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Romero. The collision caused the Dodge to roll and the driver was ejected. Romero, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was declared deceased at the scene. Santizo Santizo and a passenger, a 20-year-old Gervais man, were reportedly not injured. Santizo Santizo was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and criminally-negligent homicide. Operator impairment was considered to be the primary cause of the crash.
