MONDAY, OCT. 28

• 11:47 a.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 22 and Perrydale Road about 4 miles west of Rickreall in Polk County that claimed the lives of Gerald Carl Stauber, 69, of Keizer, and Alejandro Zukowski, 63, of Salem. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 74-year-old Sheridan resident was stopped on Perrydale Road facing north and then entered the roadway and struck a westbound GMC Sierra 3500 driven by Stauber on the rear driver-side bumper area. The impact caused the GMC to skid into the eastbound lane where it struck an eastbound International commercial pickup and trailer driven by a 60-year-old Independence man on the passenger side. Stauber and a passenger in his vehicle, Zukowski, were both declared deceased at the scene. The drivers of the Ford and International were reportedly not injured.

• 7:53 p.m. — Troopers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Highway 62 about 2 miles north of Eagle Point that claimed the life of Yesica Valenzuela-Quezada, 29, of Eagle Point. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Valenzuela-Quezada chased a puppy from a nearby residence into the highway and was struck by an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 45-year-old Eagle Point woman. Valenzuela-Quezada was declared deceased at the scene. The driver was not injured.

TUESDAY, OCT. 29

• 12:23 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 199 and Helms Road west of Grants Pass that claimed the life of Uwe Jens Stehnike, 85, of Grants Pass. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Nissan Sentra driven by a 22-year-old Abbotsford, British Columbia man failed to stop at a stop sign and entered Highway 199 where it was struck by a Kenworth dump truck driven by Stehnike. The impact caused the dump truck to roll onto its side. Stehnike was declared deceased at the scene. The Nissan’s driver fled on foot and was later arrested near the scene. He was transported to an area hospital with injuries.
