THURSDAY, NOV. 19

• 11:57 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 about 4 miles north of Bandon that took the life of Michael Guarino, 49, of Bandon. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a GMC Sierra driven by a 40-year-old Bandon man was heading north on the highway when for unknown reasons crossed the center line and struck head-on a Ford F-250 driven by the victim. Guarino was ejected from the vehicle and was declared deceased at the scene. The GMC’s driver reportedly suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

FRIDAY, NOV. 22

• 5 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 228 about 5 miles southwest of Sweet Home that took the life of Alisha Rowlett, 44, of Sweet Home. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Dodge pickup driven by a 36-year-old Sweet Home man was headed east on the highway when it crossed into the opposite lane and struck an Acura SUV driven by Rowlett. Rowlett was declared deceased at the scene. A passenger in the Acura and the Dodge’s driver reportedly suffered serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital.

SATURDAY, NOV. 23

• 8:10 p.m. — Troopers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Highway 101 just south of Florence that took the life of Garrick Wall, 40, of Florence. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Wall was walking south on the northbound shoulder of Highway 101 and wearing dark clothing when he attempted to cross an unlighted, non-crosswalk portion of the highway in an area near South Loftus Road. A GMC Terrain driven by a 58-year-old Cheshire man struck the pedestrian in the southbound lane. Wall was declared deceased at the scene. The GMC’s driver and a passenger, a 58-year-old woman, were not injured.

MONDAY, NOV. 25

• 11:47 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 42 in Coquille that took the life of Brandon Smith, 32, of Coos Bay. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Smith was driving a BMW sedan west on the highway when for unknown reasons it went into an uncontrolled spin, traveled into the eastbound lanes and collided with a Toyota Corolla driven by a 32-year-old Myrtle Point resident. The BMW became engulfed in flames. Smith was declared deceased at the scene. The Toyota’s driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

OTHER OSP NEWS

• Nov. 25 — Oregon State Police reported that a traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Linn County led to the recovery of more than $22,000 in stolen merchandise.

The agency did not report if an arrest had been made in the case.

The motorist was headed south on I-5 when pulled over by an OSP K-9 trooper at about 3 p.m. because of an equipment violation. During the stop, the trooper observed signs of possible criminal activity. After receiving consent to search the vehicle, a large amount of unopened merchandise from various Walgreens stores were discovered.

OSP said the investigation is ongoing.
