FRIDAY, OCT. 4
• 7:49 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 34 about 3 miles west of Lebanon at the intersection with Steckley Road that took the life of Michael J.M. Gosnell, 49, of Albany. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Ford Fusion driven by a 41-year-old Lebanon man had been stopped on Steckley Road when it entered the highway into the path of an eastbound Can-Am Spyder driven by Gosnell. The three-wheeled vehicle impacted the driver’s side of the Ford. Gosnell was declared deceased at the scene. A passenger on the Can-Am, a 15-year-old boy, was critically injured and transported to a hospital. The Ford’s driver was reportedly not injured.
TUESDAY, OCT. 8
• 4:53 a.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 30 about 3 miles north of Scappoose that took the life of Fernando Sajid Ortega Baca, 25, of Deer Island. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Toyota Supra driven by an 82-year-old Warren man was heading east on Highway 30 and attempted to make a U-turn into the westbound lane. The Toyota blocked westbound traffic and was hit on the passenger side by a Chevrolet 3500 driven by a 55-year-old Scappoose man. The collision forced the Chevrolet to cross into the eastbound lanes where it was struck by a Subaru Forester driven by Ortega Baca nearly head-on. Ortega Baca was declared deceased at the scene. The Toyota’s driver reportedly suffered minor injuries. The Chevrolet’s driver and a passenger, a 55-year-old Forest Grove woman, reportedly suffered serious injuries and were transported to a hospital.
THURSDAY, OCT. 10
• 12:19 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 47 about 3 miles south of Gaston that took the life of Lois Eileen Osborne, 53, of Gaston. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Osborne was south on the highway in a Chevy HHR and failed to negotiate a curve and struck head-on a Dodge Ram driven by a 32-year-old Yamhill resident. Osborne was declared deceased at the scene. The Dodge’s driver reportedly suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. Two passengers, a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy, reportedly suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for evaluation.
• 1:31 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 201N in Ontario that took the life of Richard Dean Masias, 57, of Nampa, Idaho. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Masias was driving south on the highway in a Mini Cooper and was approaching the intersection with Washington Avenue when he struck a traffic light pole at the northwest corner. Masias was declared deceased at the scene.
FRIDAY, OCT. 11
• 10:47 a.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 20 about 1 mile east of Toledo that took the life of Benito Kirk Esquivel Whitney, 18, of Florence. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that an 18-year-old Florence man was driving east on the highway in a Nissan Titan and attempted to turn onto Northeast Arcadia Drive at a high rate of speed. The vehicle left the roadway, rolled several times and came to rest on its roof. The driver suffered critical injuries and was transported via Life Flight to a medical center. Whitney, a passenger, was declared deceased at the scene.
• 5:35 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 395E about 4 miles south of Lakeview that took the life of Deanna Lee Rosecrans, 39, of Lakeview. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 39-year-old Lakeview man was headed north on a Honda motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a corner, left the roadway and crashed. Rosecrans, a passenger, was declared deceased at the scene. The operator was seriously injured and transported to a hospital.
SATURDAY, OCT. 12
• 12:28 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 in Bend that took the life of Jeremy Cecil Regan, 41, of Bend. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 76-year-old Bend woman was heading east and attempted a turn onto Powell Butte Road when it entered into the past of a westbound Harley Davidson operated by Regan. The motorcycle impacted the passenger side of the Chrysler. Regan was declared deceased at the scene. The Chrysler’s driver was reportedly not injured.
SUNDAY, OCT. 13
• 2:06 p.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 202 about 15 miles southeast of Astoria that took the life of Nathaniel Roger McCord, 68, of Scappoose. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Harley Davidson driven by a 50-year-old Rainier man was headed west on the highway and failed to negotiate a curve, lost control and laid down. A Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 32-year-old Forest Grove woman that was heading east entered the shoulder to avoid colliding with the motorcycle. A westbound Indian Scout, operated by McCord, attempted to avoid the other vehicles, lost control and laid down. McCord was ejected from the motorcycle and collided with the Chevrolet. He was declared deceased at the scene. The Harley’s operator and a passenger, a 57-year-old St. Helens woman, reportedly suffered minor injuries. The Chevrolet’s driver was reportedly not injured.
TUESDAY, OCT. 14
• 12:21 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 126E about 2 miles west of Vida that took the life of Kurt Allen Hellmich, 71, of Arcata, California. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 20-year-old Monroe man driving a Dodge Ram 3500 pulling a gooseneck trailer loaded with bales of hydroseed was heading east and while negotiating a curve, overturned the trailer and its load into the westbound lane. A Toyota Corolla driven by a 37-year-old Eugene woman that was heading west collided with the debris from the overturned trailer. Hellmich, a passenger in the Toyota, was declared deceased at the scene. The driver reportedly suffered minor injuries. Another passenger in the Toyota, a 76-year-old Arcata resident, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 16
• 9:20 a.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 about 5 miles south of Baker City that took the life of Charlie Ann McDowell, 29, of Lakewood, Colorado. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Toyota T100 driven by a 34-year-old Denver, Colorado, man was heading east and lost control of the vehicle, overcorrected into the median and rolled before coming to a rest. McDowell, a passenger in the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. She was declared deceased at the scene. The driver was seriously injured and transported to a hospital.
THURSDAY, OCT. 17
• 9:33 a.m. — Troopers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Highway 97 on the north side of Klamath Falls that took the life of Christian Lee Cleven Corwin, 38, of Klamath Falls. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a semi-truck driven by a 36-year-old Sacramento, California, man heading south struck Corwin, a pedestrian who had entered the lane of travel. Corwin was declared deceased at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
• 2:58 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 140 about 29 miles east of White City that took the life of Fabiola Salcedo, 42, of Dorris, California. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Salcedo was driving east in a Chevrolet Colorado when he lost control and spun into the westbound lane where the vehicle struck a Subaru Forester driven by a 74-year-old La Pine man. Salcedo was declared deceased at the scene. The Subaru’s driver and a passenger, a 77-year-old La Pine woman, both suffered minor to serious injuries and were transported to a hospital.
