FRIDAY, APRIL 4
• 9:08 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 about 8 miles west and south of Shaniko in Wasco County that took the life of a 7-year-old boy. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 34-year-old Spokane, Washington, man was driving south in a Honda CRV and while attempting to pass a commercial vehicle in a no-passing zone, struck head-on a Volkswagen Atlas driven by a 45-year-old Pendleton man. A passenger in the Honda, the 7-year-old, was airlifted via LifeFlight and later declared deceased. The Honda’s driver and another passenger, a 4-year-old boy, were seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. The Volkswagen’s driver and passengers, a 46-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, all of Pendleton, were seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. OSP considered an unlawful pass to be the primary cause of the crash.
SATURDAY, APRIL 5
• 10:52 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 about a mile north of the exit to Highway 30 toward Huntington in Baker County that took the life of John Carl Allyn, 85, of Baker City. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Allyn was driving east in a Chevrolet Tahoe when for unknown reasons he stopped in the slow lane and was struck from behind by a semi-truck operated by a 36-year-old Vancouver, Washington, man. Allyn was airlifted via LifeFlight to an area hospital and was later declared deceased. The truck driver was reportedly not injured.
MONDAY, APRIL 7
• 3:28 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 99 South near Goshen in Lane County that took the life of Josef Alexander Ward, 29, of Creswell. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 52-year-old Cottage Grove man was driving south on Highway 99 in a Kenworth logging truck and when he slowed to make a left turn, was rear-ended by Ward’s Toyota Matrix. Ward was transported to an area hospital and later declared deceased. The truck driver was reportedly not injured.
• 6:38 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 138E about 2-1/2 miles east of North Umpqua Village in Douglas County that took the life of Scoti Allena Hoadley, 34, of Grants Pass. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated a 65-year-old Merlin man was driving west in a Chevrolet Tahoe and for unknown reasons left the eastbound shoulder and struck a tree. Hoadley, a passenger in the vehicle, was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was declared deceased at the scene. The driver reportedly suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
