For the second time this academic year, Oregon State University senior Alan Nguyen has been named the top collegiate graphic designer in a national competition.

Nguyen, who is the creative lead for Orange Media Network, was recently named Best Graphic Designer in the national College Media Business & Advertising Managers annual competition. He also was named Best Graphic Designer in October as part of the 2022 national Pacemaker Awards, sponsored by the Associated Collegiate Press.
College Media Business & Advertising Managers is a nonprofit membership organization for university student media groups and their sales, marketing, design and management groups.
The award recognizes work from 2022.
“I’m excited to see where the designs for this year will take us,” Nguyen said. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to be recognized for this year, too.”
Nguyen leads a team of designers who work on student magazines as well as rate cards, posters and other promotional material for Orange Media Network as an organization.
At the Associated Collegiate Press awards conference, Nguyen also received ACP’s top individual honor for Advertisement of the Year for OMN’s media rate card. The card won a first place in the same category from the College Media Association.
A Beaverton resident double-majoring in design and innovation management and business analytics with a minor in marketing, Nguyen said he stumbled into graphic design almost by accident. Now, he will be spending his summer as an audience engagement intern with the Los Angeles Times and is considering making graphic design with a focus on publications/journalism as his career.
“I’m so happy that CMBAM recognized me along with other amazing designers from across the country,” Nguyen said of the award.
