A beautiful soul has moved on, and our world is a little dimmer. Shylene Marcedies Gauthier Olsen left us too soon, on August 20, 2024, at the age of 26. Shylene was born on August 23, 1997, in Corvallis, Oregon, to Daylene Buel and Sean Olsen. She spent her childhood surrounded by friends and family in Philomath, Oregon.

In primary school, Shylene excelled academically and socially. She enjoyed dance, swimming, pottery, rescuing animals and crafting homemade gifts for her family. When you received a gift from Shylene, you felt the love and kindness that went into it. As a teen, she rode quads, stayed at the beach, played with her pets and visited Grandpa and Grandma’s farm.
At 13 years old, she was present to welcome her pride and joy into the world, a baby brother who quickly joined her fan base of friends and family who loved to watch her play sports. By her freshman year, she advanced to become a star softball player who traveled nationwide with her teams. In 2015, Shylene graduated from Philomath High School. After a couple of years of searching career options, she joined the beauty industry and attended Phagans’ Beauty School. On December 9, 2019, Shylene completed the hair, nails and esthetics programs at the Corvallis campus. She had a strong passion for being the best hair stylist for her clients and loved the joy she could make them feel.
Shylene had a zest for life and embraced it fully with her energetic sparkle. Her adventurous spirit drew her to the outdoors and the water, where she spent time with her beloved labradors Mia and Tia; wherever she was, her fur babies were in tow. She had many talents, including cooking, baking, gardening and making people laugh. You could count on her for a good April fool’s prank or any holiday mischief.
Shy was an outgoing, bold, fiery soul with a boisterous, contagious belly laugh that lit up her captivating coppery brown eyes. Her brilliant smile could illuminate the atmosphere and charm any heart. Charisma was a trait she had in abundance, along with an unwavering ability to speak her mind and listen attentively. This quality gave her the gift of loving all souls she met without regard for their status or station in life. Her willingness to take on any challenge, be a shoulder to lean on, and always lend a hand allowed her to touch many lives and build meaningful relationships.
She will be deeply missed by her loving mother, Daylene Buel; her caring father, Sean Olsen and his wife, Jessica Olsen; her affectionate siblings, Kaytlynn Baldwin and Blaisen Montgomery; her devoted grandparents, Chuck and Debbie Buel; her giving aunts and uncles; her sweet nieces and nephew; her beloved cousins; and many friends.
Until our souls meet again, our glorious ray of sunshine, forever in our hearts, you will be. Our beloved Pita, Pooh bear, Shy-Shy, Sweet pea, Pumpkin, Shy-Shy-Pie, Cedies, 13, and to many, just Shy.
The celebration of life will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (eulogy reading and slideshow starting at 1:30 p.m.) at Randy Kugler Hall, Philomath City Park.
In place of flowers, we will have a donation box for the care of Tia Pia Tortilla, her loved lab, and Heartland Humane Society in honor of her love for animals.
