Richard “Dick” Alex Reid, 71, of Philomath, Oregon, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 23, 2024. Born on August 4, 1953, in Jerome, Idaho to Henry Alex Reid and Marian Ruth Walker.
Dick grew up in Jerome, Idaho working on their family dairy. He graduated from Jerome High School and attended trade school in Laramie, Wyoming. He met the love of his life, Kyla Barrand, while visiting his sister in Boise, ID, and they were married August 16, 1974. The two started their life together working on the family dairy. After the birth of their third and last child they moved to Philomath, Oregon, (Kyla’s hometown) in 1980.
Dick worked a variety of farm jobs until getting hired on at Oregon State University where he worked for 30 years on the grounds and maintenance crew until he retired. He was known for his hard work, generosity, and service. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he would always volunteer to help in any way he could including helping people move, helping set up for church events, and participating in service activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family playing games, attending grandchildren’s sporting events, playing disc golf on a course he made on the family property, and other outdoor activities. He loved to stay busy working on his property, helping children with work projects and remodeling his house. He really enjoyed being retired. He always said he worked harder after retirement, but it was work that he loved.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kyla (Barrand) Reid; his children, Clay (Shalise) Reid of Providence, Utah; Christy (Ryan) Fergus of Salem, Oregon; Shannon (Justin) Greeley of Philomath, Oregon; sisters Linda (Mick) Morris of Clinton, Utah; Sharon (John deceased) Turley of Loveland, Colo.; Nancy (Lon) Thompson of Jerome, Id, Connie (Dennis) Hunt of Kimberly, Id.; Debbie (Doug) Self of Star, Id.; and Judy (Mike) Gillespie of Twin Falls, Id. and 12 grandchildren; Aiden (Avenly) Reid, Cale Reid, Sage Reid, Kase Reid, Matthew Fergus, Benji Fergus, Sammy Fergus, Logan Greeley, Cole Greeley, Connor Greeley, Abby Greeley and Cassie Greeley.
A funeral service for Dick will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 150 James St, Philomath, OR. A public viewing will be held at 10 AM.
