Heaven gained a good one on Sept. 3, 2025, when George “Georgie” Edward Shroyer Jr., 86, of Philomath, Oregon, died at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon. He passed peacefully surrounded by love and family after a two-month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Georgie was born in Corvallis, Oregon, on August 9, 1939, to George and Helen Shroyer Sr. He was number three of five children, with two older sisters, a baby sister in Heaven and a younger brother. He grew up in Wren before the family moved to Waldport during WWII, living there one year before moving back to Wren.
In 1945, his family moved into what is known as the “Castle House,” in Philomath. He attended Philomath schools, finishing the 10th grade. Georgie worked on the family farm from a young age. He served in the Army National Guard, with an honorable discharge in 1961. In 1965 he became a partner in George Shroyer Logging, running the company with his dad, George Shroyer Sr. Georgie ran the company from 1980 until he retired in 2002.
Georgie married Mary Ann Wischnofske on February 25, 1967. They had five children — Mark, Holly, Susan, Matt and Amy. He continued to stay active after retiring, working on projects at the logging shop and on their farm just outside of Philomath. He enjoyed picking on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had an amazing sense of humor that will truly be missed. He was a hard worker all his life, showing great perseverance. He loved his vanilla ice cream, visiting with friends, tinkering in the shop and reading his Bible. Georgie stated that he was ready when the Lord was ready to bring him home.
Georgie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Shroyer of Philomath; his four children and their spouses, Mark and Jennifer Shroyer of Monmouth, Oregon, Susan and Shawn Faust, and Matt Shroyer, both of Philomath, Oregon, and Amy and Sean Fillmore of Albany, Oregon; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and Lucy the cat. He was reunited in Heaven with his beloved daughter Holly Shroyer and parents Helen and George Shroyer Sr.
Georgie’s journey on this Earth was one marked by hard work, dedication, love, compassion and unwavering faith in God.
