He was a member of his battalion’s pistol team, and remained a bull’s-eye shot his entire life. In 1960, Bud joined the U.S. Forest Service where he worked until his retirement in 1984. He was a Timber Sales officer and enjoyed every moment spent in the forest. He fought wildfires in the Pacific Northwest and responded to the Mt. St. Helen’s eruption in 1980.

Bud enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gun collecting, hunting, talking military, reading and recalling family history. He was a member of American Legion Post 11, VFW, 40/8, Korean War Veterans, National Association of Atomic Veterans, Westwood Community Church, and taught Youth Hunter Safety classes in Philomath for many years.
