Avanell (Avie) Corrine (Prowett) Wren, longtime resident of Alsea, passed away May 5, 2021 at the age of 94, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Avie was born April 25th, 1927, in Grand Island, Nebraska. She was the second child of Bernard C. and Yola Fay (Hoagland) Prowett. She subsequently had 6 half brothers and 3 half sisters. Avie and her older sister Darline were raised by their maternal grandparents from the time she was 2, moving with her father and sister to Alsea when she was 10.

She attended Alsea Schools, graduating in 1944. It was here she met her future husband, Arnold Wren. They were married December 10, 1946 in Reno, Nevada, after his discharge from the Marines and they then made their home in Alsea, raising their 4 children on the family farm.

Avie worked as a Bookkeeper at various businesses, including Alsea Lumber, a furniture store in Corvallis, and the paper mill in Philomath before her retirement.

Avie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 son (Craig Riley Wren), sister, and 5 half brothers (Charles, Thomas, and Donald Johnson, and Richard and William Prowett). She is survived by 1 half brother (Arthur), 3 half sisters, 3 children: Cory Rye (Teresa) of Philomath, Terri (Shank) of Albany, and Shawn (Lisha) of Alsea; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

At Avie’s request, there will be no services.

Demoss-Durdan Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements.
