The Philomath High School baseball team’s bats have fallen silent in recent games and that trend continued on Saturday in an 11-0 loss at North Marion.
The Warriors (4-5) will get back into Oregon West Conference play on Monday with a home game against Cascade. The first pitch is scheduled to be delivered at 4:30 p.m. The team then plays a home-and-home against Woodburn on Wednesday (away) and Thursday (at PHS).
In the loss to the Huskies, Philomath had just one hit in the game, which was shortened to five innings on the 10-run mercy rule. Jake Williams, who was in the lineup as a designated hitter, singled on a line drive to left field in the third inning. Blake Niemann followed and hit a grounder to the second baseman with Williams forced out at second. Niemann was then thrown out attempting to steal.
Philomath had no other base runners and North Marion’s pitchers faced the minimum number of batters at 15.
The Warriors are hitting .134 at the plate in their last three games.
Adam Hernandez started at pitcher and in three innings, allowed four hits and five walks with two strikeouts. Skylar Brolin tossed the fourth and allowed one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
North Marion sophomore Rex DeAngelis hurt the Warriors with six of his team’s RBIs. DeAngelis hit a three-run homer in the second and a bases-clearing triple in the third. Dawson Schrenk and Cole Boughal combined for North Marion’s one-hitter.
The Huskies remained unbeaten with the win over Philomath to go to 9-0, but they played a second game on Saturday and lost to unbeaten 2A power Kennedy, 2-1.
