The Philomath Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall to vote on approval of a conditional-use permit to create Paul J. Cochran Veterans Memorial Park.

The 11,325-square-foot lot on the corner of North 16th and College streets was donated to the city in 2019 from the late Beverly Durham with the intention of developing the property into a park in memory of her son, Paul Cochran, who was killed in the Vietnam War.

The property is currently zoned as office residential. City code provides for the creation of a park through the conditional-use permit process. A public hearing on the matter will be held for commissioners to receive comments.

The Planning Commission at the Tuesday meeting will also elect a chair and vice chair and listen to a report from city staff that goes through ongoing projects in town.

For those not attending in person at City Hall, the regular meeting will also be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.
