Good morning, Philomath.

The Philomath Schools family lost some longtime educators to retirement after this past academic year, including Donna Carter (38 years in the classroom) and Steve Bennett (33 years). County commissioner Gabe Shepherd will be holding town halls in Summit and Philomath on Saturday — we talked to him about what’s behind those efforts. Chip seal work on Highway 34 between Alsea and Philomath begins next week. A Hunter’s Education Field Day opportunity is coming up Aug. 22. In partner content, the Climate Commission has big goals and emergency alert systems are more popular in rural areas around the state. — Brad Fuqua, Publisher/Editor
