In a battle for fourth place in the Oregon West Conference softball standings, Newport edged Philomath, 9-8, on the coast Wednesday evening.
The Warriors go to 8-13 overall and 3-11 in the conference while Newport improves to 5-19 and 4-10.
Newport junior Baby Garrett was a standout for the Cubs in the game by going 3 for 4, including a double in the first inning.
Philomath’s statistics from the game were not available.
Philomath will play its season finale at 5 p.m. Thursday at Warrior Field. Prior to the game, Senior Day recognition will take place.
