BENTON PIONEER
CALLED TO REST
———

Rev. William Dixon, born in this city 64 years ago, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William F. Dixon, Benton county pioneers who came to Oregon from Missouri in the autumn of 1845, and a brother of Mrs. Mary A. Barber, who died at Yaquina Tuesday, September 1, passed away early yesterday morning at his home at Philomath.

Mr. Dixon grew to manhood in this city, and is well remembered by the earlier settlers of this vicinity. His parents settled on a donation land claim which included the northern portion of what is now Corvallis. When a young man Mr. Dixon entered the ministry, married a Miss Hamer, of this vicinity, who with his family, survives him. Two brothers, James, of Elk City, and Cyrus, of Portland, are left. The funeral service was held at Philomath at 2 o’clock this afternoon, with interment in Newton cemetery. With the passing of Mr. Dixon, Benton county loses another honored and high esteemed pioneer.
