Mrs. John Eakin
Dies in Portland
———
The body of Mrs. John Eakin, who died in Portland Friday following a Caesarian operation passed through Albany this noon enroute to Philomath where the funeral was held this afternoon.
Mrs. Eakin was a former Albany woman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Ellsworth who moved from this city to Portland about six weeks ago. She spent the greater part of her life here and had many friends in this city.
The Ellsworth family has had many tragedies. Mrs. Eakin’s brother, Fred, was killed in a railroad accident several years ago. Two years ago another brother, Frank, was drowned at Mill City. Two brothers, besides the father and mother, survive and make their homes in Portland. They are Clarence and Elmer Ellswort. Two children, Leslie, aged eight, and the baby born at the time of the mother’s death, are left in the care of their father. Mrs. Eakin was about 40 years old.

Babe Dies at Newberg — Benjamin E. Eakin, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Eakin, died recently at Newberg and the body was forwarded to Corvallis, arriving here on the morning train. Burial will be at Newton cemetery at 10 o’clock Sunday morning. Relatives of the family reside near Philomath.
Editor’s notes: On the spelling of the mother’s first name, Salena as shown on the grave marker appears to be correct when referencing against other information on her life. Various records indicate that in life, she preferred to go by her middle name of Ella.
Her son’s birth certificate shows birth at 4:53 a.m. on Jan. 1, 1920, which indicates his mother lived into the next day before falling to a pulmonary embolus (as listed on her death certificate). The baby, Benjamin Ellsworth Eakin, died April 16, 1920, as shown on his death certificate.
A Mount Union Cemetery index and map shows “Baby Eakin” was buried in the same plot as his mother.
