The funeral of Robert A. Smith, who resided four miles west of Corvallis, occurred Wednesday at Plymouth chapel. Mr. Smith died at noon Monday, of a complication of Bright’s disease and heart trouble, at the age of 66 years. The funeral service was conducted by Revs. Carrick and Green of this city, and was largely attended by friends and acquaintances in the neighborhood. The interment was in Newton cemetery. Mr. Smith settled in Benton in the Eighties, and was a highly respected citizen. He was the father of Misses Eta and Robena Smith, well-known students at the college, who with their mother are the surviving members of the family.

Editor’s note: According to Robert Allen Smith’s death certificate, he was born May 17, 1837, in London, Canada, and died Jan. 4, 1904. His residence was described as being located 4 miles southwest of Corvallis with his occupation listed as farmer. The cause of death was valvular heart disease with Bright’s disease and cerebral hemorrhage as contributing factors. He was buried at Mount Union Cemetery on Jan. 6, 1904.
