Was Former Summit Resident — The late Mrs. Matilda Jane Hamar, whose funeral was held from Bovee’s chapel yesterday afternoon, was formerly a resident of Summit. Mrs. Hamar died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lester Bennett, at Philomath, from a paralytic stroke that followed several years of invalidism. She has made her home in Philomath over ten years. Several sons and daughters survive. Rev. E.W. Detweiler of Philomath officiated at the service yesterday and interment was in Newton cemetery.

Editor’s note: According to the 1920 Census, Mrs. Hamar, born in England, was widowed and lived on College Street with a son and three stepdaughters. Other records show her maiden name as Tidy with marriages to Richard Barnum and David Hamar, and relocating from Kansas to Oregon in 1908.
