The grave marker for Mary J. Williams is difficult to read but includes her full name, year of birth and year of death. She died at age 56 in 1902 from consumption, a term during that time period for the disease now known as tuberculosis. (Photo by Brad Fuqua/Philomath News)

— The funeral of Mrs. Mary Williams occurred at Philomath Thursday, Bishop H.L. Barclay officiating. Mrs. Williams was a sister of T.P. Conner and a former resident of Philomath. She died at Salem Tuesday of consumption after an extended illness of four months. The body was brought to Philomath from Salem Wednesday.

Editor’s note: Little information on the life of Mrs. Williams could be found. Biographical accounts of her brother, Thomas P. Conner, suggests that she was probably born in Ohio. Conner came to Oregon in the 1870s.
