Funeral Tomorrow Afternoon — The funeral of Mrs. Mahala K. Bohannon, pioneer of Oregon, will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, Friday, from the Congregational church at Plymouth. Dr. W.C. Kantner of Salem, an old time friend of the family and former pastor of the Corvallis church, will officiate. Interment will be in Newton cemetery.

Editor’s note: A full obituary for Mrs. Bohannon could not be found. Based on available genealogical records, she was born Mahala K. Newton in Iowa on March 16, 1845 to Abiathar and Rachel (Garlinghouse) Newton — the youngest of eight children. She died Aug. 7, 1928, in Corvallis. According to details in the obituaries of immediate family members, the Newton family came by ox team across the plains from Iowa to Oregon in 1848 and settled in Benton County 4 miles west of Corvallis. The 1850 census shows Mahala as a child living with her family in Benton County. She married William E. Bohannon on April 19, 1860, and they had five children.
