DIED IN SALEM WAS
NATIVE OF FRANCE
———
Joseph G. Basselin Succumb-
ed Yesterday Morning
After Year’s Illness
———
Joseph George Basselin, retired Benton county farmer who died in Salem at 6 o’clock yesterday morning, was a native of France. Fifty years of his life had been lived in America, however, and he had spent some time on the western coast.
Mr. Basselin was born November 15, 1859. He came to America when a lad of 16 and located in New York state. He married there and 23 years later, with members of his family, crossed the country to locate in Washington. After 15 years in the state, Mr. Basselin decided to locate in Oregon and 12 years of his life were devoted to farming in Benton county.
Mr. Basselin was a resident of the Plymouth neighborhood where he made his home with his son, Joseph Basselin, Jr., and his family. He had been in failing health a year or more and recently had gone to Salem for medical attention received there. Death came early yesterday morning. Mrs. Basselin died some years ago, and the son, Joseph, is the only surviving member of the family.
The funeral will be held from Bovee’s funeral parlors at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. E.W. Warrington is to officiate, and interment will be in Newton cemetery.
