Mother and Babe Succumb
at Hospital Saturday
———

A mother and her infant child, Mrs. Hildred May Newth and the little babe born to her Saturday, passed away that day at the Corvallis hospital, the tragic ending bringing universal sorrow to relatives and friends in the Philomath and Blodgett communities.

Mrs. Newth was the wife of Carroll Newth of Blodgett and a daughter-in-law of the late Dr. C.A. Newth of Philomath, whose death occurred about a year ago. She was born January 23, 1906, and was aged 19 years, nine months and 14 days. She had resided in Philomath and at Blodgett and had a wide circle of friends in western Benton county.

The funeral service was held from the white church at Philomath this afternoon. Rev. Deitweiler officiated at the funeral and interment was in the Newth family plot in Newton cemetery.

Funeral services were held from the First U.B. church Monday at 2 o’clock for Hildred Brown Newth, who passed away at the Corvallis General hospital Saturday. Rev. E.W. Dettwiler had charge of the services. The deceased was born in Iowa on January 29, 1906, coming to Oregon with her parents when a small child. She attended the public and high school here. In September 1924, she was married to Carroll Newth of this city. To this union a son, Daniel, was born and passed away with his mother. Besides her husband, she leaves her father, J.W. Brown of this city, a sister, Mrs. L. Mills of Alpine, and a host of friends to mourn her passing.

Editor’s note: Iowa vital records indicate that Jan. 23, 1906 as mentioned in the Nov. 9, 1925, obituary, was the correct birth date.
