Was Resident of Corvallis — George Hutton Nichols, whose funeral was held from Bovee’s chapel at 11 o’clock yesterday morning, was a former resident of Corvallis. Mr. Nichols, 76, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fannie Roberts, in Vancouver, Wash. He came west in 1878, and prior to going to Vancouver about a week ago to be with his daughter, resided in Corvallis and Eugene. Three daughters and several brothers and sisters survive. Following the service, the remains of the late Mr. Nichols were interred in Newton cemetery.
Editor’s note: George H. Nichols was the son of Edward Nichols and Hannah Hutton — both of his parents born in England. He married Rosa A. Meats on March 31, 1876, in Cass County, Missouri. Based on his death certificate, his age at death was 74, not 76 as referenced in the news accounts. The cause of death was acute myocarditis, a heart-related condition. Mr. Nichols worked as a cabinet maker during his working life.
